Music Teacher National Association:
Website Evaluation
As you pull up the home page on your desktop computer screen you see a very well put together front page. Maroon colored so it grabs your eyes but doesn’t strain them. MTNA is the acronym written across the upper left hand side. There are several menu bars to choose from and so many links to click you begin to feel lost and overwhelmed with information. The home page has a total of five different task bars.
The very top one contains three links to three different home pages from the same company. The second task bar contains two links and a search engine bar. The first link leads you to the member’s area. The second link is to contact the company itself. The search engine allows you to search anything and everything within the site or the sister sites for information by keywords. The third task bar has a total of nine different links each with its own drop down menu containing several links related to each header. The fourth task bar contains the same links as the third task bar but these links do not have a drop down menu to choose related topics. The fifth task bar contains five different links. These five different links are in many not related to one another as the other 4 task bars do. This task bar contains public relations, privacy policy, site help, site map, and login for members.
The website without the usage of pictures clearly lets you know that it is an association of musician teachers from across the United States. The images contained within the website are far and few and are usually images of individuals accompanied by an instrument of music. Looking further in depth into the websites content, one can notice immediately that not only is there a vast amount of information about the company and what they do but as well as how the company keeps order and maintains itself. The website is written clearly and understandable with no grammatical errors.
The website www.mtna.org is at first glance a professional website and organization. The ending “.Org” signifies the company already within your mind as a professional place of business and would a very reputable place to not only work for but to cite for information. The website is just a window into the corporation’s structure of bylaws and decrees. The website has a link to the association’s history, bylaws, divisions of local and state information, the association’s staff, code of ethics, affiliated organizations, and national elections. The website tells the reader it has over 24,000 members across the United States. The information about becoming a member is just as large as just trying to figure who the company itself is. Each state for each member has monthly dues to pay and each state has a different amount. Then at every level above that from collegiate, corporate, institutional, international, patron, retired and six month memberships the dues per month increase (excluding retired and six month memberships) by state by level and position.
MTNA the website is a very large and informational website to use. The association keeps the website up to date and nothing within the website is dependent upon anecdotes or prior knowledge about the company. The mission statement is clearly written on its very own page. The corporation has the home office address written on the bottom of every page and link even within the sister sites. The website has an area for the members who are all music teachers to enter competitions, with their respective students of course, and win prizes.
www.mtna.org is a great site to get to know more scholarly individuals like you within the profession of musical education. The website contains many ways to get involved with others across the country and share ideals and to share your experiences. Also the website allows you to join a very respectable and reputable organization. The website contains a plethora of information about who they and what they stand for. The purpose and mission of the website and company are visible and if you have any questions for anyone the website contains a directory to all of its staff members and some of its just normal membership holding members. The website is a great site to use and cite but lacks only two things. The website does not pull you in to read more about the company it exactly is quite intimidating. Secondly the vast information contained within the website leaves you lost and confused as to where to go next. The website basically has no clear directions for newcomers.
